Our history
January 15, 2003
"Total Sunshine" was initially conceptualized by a young EMT-Paramedic in Washington, DC, who was moved to make a difference in the lives of the people she served, towards happiness. She regularly witnessed and experienced the pain, tragedies, injustices, and sadness in our Nations` Capital's streets and homes. This insight galvanized her into action for positive change. Thus "Total Sunshine" was created.
Idealistically, "Total Sunshine" represents happiness, goodwill, tolerance, peace, balance, laughter, love, unity, harmony, understanding, loyalty, compassion, or any positively perceived event or behavior that will promote a smile in our presently "too unhappy" global community.
The components of "Total Sunshine" are The nonprofit Corporation -Total Sunshine, Incorporated. The Television show-"Total Sunshine!" Host-Miss Total Sunshine.
The television show was created first; it has been broadcast in Washington, DC, on DCTV weekly since January 2001. Miss Total Sunshine intended for the show to embody a "total entertainment package," thus "promoting smiles" for viewers.
On January 15, 2003, the progressively increased charitable functions of the "Total Sunshine!" television show prompted her to become the founder of the nonprofit Corporation, titled the same, to more completely serve the public and "smile promoting" fashion.
In this quest for promoting smiles to the public through broadcasting messages of goodwill and tolerance, rewarding top graduates, performing charitable deeds, and embodying a myriad of tactics, Miss Total Sunshine has recruited a dynamic Total Sunshine Team of highly motivated individuals.
Activities of the nonprofit Corporation are regularly broadcast in the television show for maximum outreach possibilities. The Total Sunshine Team is fully dedicated to promoting goodwill messages and providing charitable assistance wherever and whenever possible.
TS SMILE PROMOTING INITIATIVES
The School Grade Incentive Program
Supports and rewards students who excel in academics. In addition to providing educational tools for success, Life Coping Skill Seminars are facilitated within schools to assist youth towards positive decision making now and in the near future.
1. SGI Program Specifics
Total Sunshine's Annual School Grade Rewards Ceremony supports DC's Valedictorians and Salutatorians. They receive tech tools for furthering their scholastic success (laptops for college, laptop case/bag, flash-drive, and TSI signature items); this is a city-wide program.
2. In-School Seminars with Youth
Total Sunshine conducts dynamic musical seminars within DCPS; that emphasize positive behaviors, educates for HIV/AIDS awareness, encourage peaceful conflict resolution (anti-violence messages), discourage bullying, highlight positive role models, (Cope and Say No to Dope) anti-drug messages, educate and inform of careers in medicine.
Guest speakers are regularly included to maintain diversity in message delivery. Students will be rewarded for overall academic improvements related to grade point averages and educational enhancements. Seminars will be no more than 2 hours long and conducted regularly within junior and senior high schools.
3. Broadcasting Smiles Initiative/Media Outreach
Televises activities of TSI and showcases positive role models for youth while entertaining audiences. Inspires positive behavior and general productivity in society. In-School Seminars with youth are recorded for broadcast, showcase Annual Rewards Ceremony, honorees, community leaders, and interactions added to the website, Twitter, and television show.
Providing mentorship to the public towards peaceful conflict resolution provides health and wellness tips harmoniously, inspires positive behavior, and broadcasts community interactions/events on the internet and television.
